Aug. 30 named College Colors Day at KSU

KENNESAW, Ga. -- Friday, Aug. 30 will be designated College Colors Day at Kennesaw State University, the school announced Monday.

This is the seventh year in a row the university has hosted a College Colors Day in Kennesaw and surrounding cities.

KSU President Dan Papp and Athletic Director Vaughn Williams plan to meet on Monday, Aug. 26 to sign the College Colors Day proclamation. They will be joined by the mayors of several nearby towns, including Acworth Mayor Tommy Allegood, Dallas Mayor Boyd Austin, Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews and Powder Springs Mayor Patricia Vaughn.

College Colors Day kicks off the university's fall athletic season and gives Owls fans a chance to proudly show off their black and gold.

DALLAS, Ga. -- One of the country's toughest and most popular obstacle races will hold an encore later this year.

The Savage Race returns to Paulding County on Saturday, Oct. 5.

It features more than five miles of obstacles, including a water slide, a dash through flames and a crawl through mud beneath a field of barbed wire.

At the end of the race, participants are treated to beer, barbeque and live music. All finishers receive a T-shirt, medal and race decal.

Registration for the Savage Race is $69 through Aug. 8 and only goes up from there. An additional $15 surcharge will be added for insurance. It costs $10 to be a spectator.

The Savage Race will be held at Moonlight Stables Equestrian Center, which is located at 2462 Harmony Grove Church Road in Dallas.

VILLA RICA, Ga. -- Douglas & Paulding County Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold a golf tournament this week.

The event will be Thursday, June 13 at 9 a.m. Registration opens at 7:45 a.m.

It will be held at the Frog Golf Club in Villa Rica.

5K to benefit Paulding Education Foundation

HIRAM, Ga. -- The Paulding Education Foundation will hold a 5K Pep Rally fundraiser next month.

The race will be held Saturday, Apr. 20 at the Hiram Trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail.

The fun will begin at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a family-friendly festival with bounce houses, Wii Fit competitions and more.

Entry is $20; participants can also run for free if they choose not to receive a T-shirt.

East Paulding HS cross country finishes strong

DALLAS, Ga. -- The East Paulding High School girls' cross country team is still celebrating its big win at the regional meet.

The Lady Raiders won their second Region 5-AAAAA title in a year. Lilly Kidane ran her way to first place, and teammate Leah Sikorski finished as runner-up. Ana Hernandez placed in the top 10.

East Paulding also finished 9th at the state meet, capping off a great season in which the girls never fell out of Georgia's top 10 cross country teams.

Braves stars to host baseball camp

Braves stars to host baseball camp

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Two Atlanta Braves superstars will host an MVP Baseball Camp at South Paulding High School next month.

The one-day camp will be held on Saturday, July 14. The cost is $95, which includes lunch, a scrimmage game and autographs with the two camp heads, Brian Jordan and Otis Nixon.
