Race this weekend: Run 4 Your Life

DALLAS, Ga. -- Donate Life Georgia will host a 5K on the Silver Comet Trail this weekend.

Run 4 Your Life will be Saturday, Apr. 18 at 9 a.m. on the Paulding County portion of the popular trail

The race is an AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifier. Learn more about the 2015 Peachtree.

Registration is $25 in advance and $30 on race day, and includes a T-shirt. Children under age 12 are invited to run or walk at no cost, but will not receive T-shirts unless they pay the registration fee.

April 17 is National Blue and Green Day; runners are encouraged to wear blue and green to spread awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation. Donate Life Georgia is the state's donor registry.

East Paulding HS to retire Zack Wheeler's jersey

East Paulding HS to retire Zack Wheeler's jersey

DALLAS, Ga. -- East Paulding High School will retire alumnus and professional baseball player Zack Wheeler's jersey this weekend.

Wheeler graduated from East Paulding High in 2009 and was the sixth overall pick in that year's MLB draft. He was selected by the San Francisco Giants, then was traded to the New York Mets in 2011.

Wheeler made his major league debut on June 18, 2013, against the Atlanta Braves. He is currently a starting pitcher for the Mets.

The jersey retirement ceremony will be Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m., in the East Paulding High gymnasium. While playing for the Raiders, Wheeler compiled a 95-36 record and was named the 2009 Gatorade High School Baseball Player of the Year for Georgia.

Wheeler's jersey will be retired during halftime of Saturday's varsity basketball game.

DALLAS, Ga. -- Start your weekend with a fun "glow run" in Paulding County.

Run with the Badges 5K will be held Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m. A glow run is a race where runners wear clothing and accessories -- paint, bracelets and necklaces, etc. -- that glow in the dark.

Registration is $30 and can be completed at pauldingpsa.org. Money raised by the event will go to Paulding Public Safety Appreciation, which supports members and families of Paulding County Public Safety.

The race will be held at the Seven Hills Connector in Dallas. Runners may park in the Publix parking lot at Seven Hills Boulevard and Cedarcrest Road.

All participants will receive T-shirts and glow gear; additional gear can be purchased at the registration table on race day.

Mellow Mushroom hosting Sports Authority shopping spree contest

(WXIA) -- In honor of its role as sponsor of the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, Mellow Mushroom is hosting a contest for the runners, athletes and weekend warriors in metro Atlanta.

The Atlanta-based pizza chain has debuted its Mellow Sports Sweep contest. Based on the old game show "Supermarket Sweep," the contest will give two lucky winners the opportunity to go on a 90-second shopping spree at Sports Authority.

To enter, create a 15-second Instagram video using #MellowSportsSweep explaining why you should win the contest.

The grand prize includes two race entries into the 2014 AJC Peachtree Road Race, one night at the W Atlanta - Buckhead, dinner for two at Mellow Mushroom and, of course, the Sports Authority sweep.

DALLAS, Ga. -- Trinity Chapel Academy will hold a 5K fundraiser this weekend.

The race will be Saturday, May 17 at 8 a.m. Runners will begin the race at the Tara Drummond Trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail.

Packets must be retrieved at the school, which is located at 4665 Macland Road in Powder Springs, the day before the race. Pick-up will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Advance registration is $25 and includes a T-shirt and sponsor goody bag.

HIRAM, Ga. -- Kick off your weekend with a 5K benefiting the Family Alliance of Paulding.

The 8th annual March Against Meth will be held Friday, May 9 at the Hiram Trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail. Race day registration opens at 5 p.m., the 5K will start at 6 p.m. and a 1-mile fun run will be off and running at 6:15 p.m.

Race this weekend: Dirty Spokes Trail Run

DALLAS, Ga. -- Dirty Spokes Productions will bring a trail race to Paulding County this weekend.

The Mount Tabor Park 8.0/4.0 Mile Trail Run will be held Saturday, Apr. 12 at the eponymous park. Runners can choose to tackle one of the two distances on an off-road trail.

Registration is $40 for the 8.0-mile race and $35 to run 4.0 miles. On race day, the price jumps to $45 and $40, respectively.

Both races start at 8 a.m. All runners will receive Dri-FIT T-shirts, while medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each race, as well as the top three finishers in each age group.
