Dallas couple wins $2 million playing Powerball

ATLANTA -- A Dallas couple is much richer after claiming a big Georgia Lottery prize Wednesday.

Kenneth and Mary Davis won $2 million for matching the first five numbers in the May 9 Powerball drawing. They selected the PowerPlay option for an additional $1, which increased their prize by $1 million.

The couple bought the lucky ticket at Crossroads Grocery on Dallas Acworth Highway. Winning numbers from the May 9 drawing were 1-7-11-55-56 and the Powerball was 1.

HIRAM, Ga. -- Academy Sports + Outdoors is gearing up to open its fourth store in 12 months.

The newest location will be at 4215 Jimmy Lee Smith Parkway in Hiram.

To celebrate the franchise's recent success, the new store will invite children from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Paulding County to a private shopping spree before the location opens to the public.

The shopping spree will take place on Thursday, Apr. 19; the store will officially open at 8 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 20. The first 70 customers in line on opening day will receive a free 20-inch Huffy youth bike.

Mega Millions 'springs forward' to $171M

ATLANTA -- Mega Millions sprang forward with your clocks this weekend.

Tuesday's jackpot has jumped to an estimated $171 million, the Georgia Lottery announced Monday.

Mega Millions offers two jackpot payment options -- approximately $6.5 million a year for 26 years with the annuity choice, or a single payment worth approximately $124 million.

Tickets are only $1 per play. Players can multiply prizes with the Megaplier option for an additional $1 per play.

Who knows -- maybe you could be the next Marcia Adams, the College Park accountant who won $72 million in a January Mega Millions drawing.

As with all other Georgia Lottery games, proceeds from Mega Millions benefit education in the state.
