Georgia Senator Encourages Students to Enter Holocaust Contest

ROSWELL, GA -- Georgia Senator John Albers (R-Roswell) recently announced his desire for middle and high school students to enter the annual statewide Holocaust Art and Writing Contest.

Sponsored by the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust in cooperation with the Georgia Department of Education, the contest's theme is "What Are the Lessons of the Holocaust?" The program began in 1995; this is the first year that the contest will include a Music category.

"These contests are a great educational tool that inspires students to take the initiative to learn more about a critical time in our history," said Sen. Albers. "This program is a great example of the kind of creativity our schools need to truly engage students.

Newt Gingrich to Speak at Paulding Chamber 50th Anniversary Event

ATLANTA -- The Paulding Chamber of Commerce will kick off its 50th anniversary with the Former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, The Honorable Newt Gingrich.

Mr. Gingrich will be the keynote speaker at the Chamber's Vision Forward 2011 dinner and program on Thursday, Jan. 20 at the Thomas Murphy Ballroom of the Georgia World Congress Center (285 International Boulevard NW, Atlanta, 30313). He will discuss his outlook on education, healthcare and economic opportunities for Metro Atlanta and the nation.

Additional attendees include David Ralson, Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives, Secretary of State Brian Kemp and Congressman Phil Gingrey.

11 Alive hosts Hero Central, where YOU can help with "Curing Kid's Cancer".  All day this Friday.

Atlanta, GA--  11Alive has a chance for you to be a hero and help fight cancer in children.

We are hosting a Hero Central this Friday where you become the Hero. The money you give will go to ‘Curing Kid’s Cancer’ a local group raising money for research. It was started by parents who lost their child to cancer. 

We hope you’ll join us and help Friday from 11am to 8pm here at 11Alive.

Paulding E-911 Hosts Law Enforcement Officials From Mexico

DALLAS, GA -- On Wednesday, Nov. 17, Paulding County E-911 hosted a tour of the 911 Center for the police commissioner of the city of Monterrey, Mexico.

A city of approximately 1.3 million people, Monterrey is the largest industrial center in Mexico and is looking to upgrade its emergency communications center. The city chose two 911 centers in Georgia to visit to observe operations and see how computer-aided dispatch systems work in a U.S.
