71 Ga. UPS drivers added to Circle of Honor

(WXIA) -- More than 1,400 UPS drivers worldwide were recently inducted into the Circle of Honor, an organization for employees who have achieved at least 25 years of accident-free driving.

Seventy-one of the inductees live in Georgia.

"My thanks go to all of them for their dedication and focus, and for the countless lives they've saved," Dwayne Meeks, president of UPS South Atlantic District, said in a statement.

Georgia's senior safe driver is Guy Haynes of Tifton, who can boast 43 accident-free years. The most seasoned Circle of Honor driver is Thomas Camp of Livonia, Mich., who has been driving for UPS for 52 years without an accident.

(WXIA) -- The 2015 Georgia Teacher of the Year will be announced Friday during a special luncheon.

Georgia State Superintendent Dr. John Barge will reveal the winner at around 2:45 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park.

WellStar names new president

MARIETTA, Ga. -- WellStar Health System has chosen Candice Saunders as its new president and chief operating officer.

Saunders will take over her new role after current president and CEO Reynold Jennings' contract expires on Dec. 31, 2015.

"WellStar is critical and essential to the communities it serves. More than 1.4 million people rely on our services to live a healthy life," Saunders said in a release. "With my new responsibilities, I will provide leadership continuity to ensure that our system continues to play a major role in providing world-class healthcare to the people of metro Atlanta and northwest Georgia for years to come."

Stage combat pro to teach class at Shorter

Stage combat pro to teach class at Shorter

ROME, Ga. -- A stage and screen fighting expert will host three master classes at Shorter University this week.

Richard Ryan is the assistant stunt coordinator for "Vikings," a History Channel drama series. He has worked on fight scenes and stunts for a number of major movies, including Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, The Golden Compass and The Dark Knight.

Ryan will offer stage combat classes to Shorter theatre and musical theatre majors on Jan. 17 and 18. Students from high schools in Bartow, Gordon, Murray and Paulding counties will also participate in the classes.

"Mr. Ryan is at the top of his field, and our students will learn much from his experience and his knowledge of film and the stage business," Shorter assistant theatre professor Kevin Anderton said. "It is a unique experience for our students to work with a theatre professional of his caliber."
