Suspect steals packages, replaces them with empty boxes

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. -- Authorities said a man was caught on camera stealing a package from a Paulding County front porch and replacing it with an empty box. They believe the same suspect has done it five times in the past month.

According to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office, the suspect has been following UPS trucks around and taking packages after they've been delivered. He was caught by a surveillance camera placing an empty box on the porch and taking a package with the original items inside.

"It's very strange," said Sgt. Ashley Henson. "This is one of the first situations where we've heard somebody actually left an empty box, so it's very strange."

Dutton said normally she would have been home when the suspect stole her package, which contained clothing, but she wasn't. She debates whether she wanted to be home. "Part of me says yes, the other part of me is very glad that I wasn't," she said.

The suspect is described as a black man about 6'3", weighing about 220 pounds. He is thought to drive a four-door silver Saturn passenger car. He's been seen wearing a "distinctive" shirt with wings on its back.

Anyone with information on the man's identity is asked to call the Paulding County Sheriff's Office at (770) 443-3015.
