Remains found in Paulding County ID'd as Dallas man

DALLAS, Ga. -- Police have identified a dead man found decomposing behind a Paulding County home.

Using a combination of DNA evidence and the man's tattoos, police confirmed the remains are those of 25-year-old Joshua Andrew Holmes. There were no obvious signs of trauma to Holmes' body, and the manner of death is under investigation.

A call came in July 3 at around 1:19 p.m. to Paulding County E-911 in reference to a possible body being located in the 3300 block of Ridge Road.

Upon arrival deputies confirmed that there was in fact a deceased person in the wooded area behind the home.

The complainant told deputies that he had been smelling something "dead" behind his residence for a few days. He found the body when he went to investigate the smell.

Video from a neighbor's home several days before may provide a little more information in the investigation. Apparently the resident's footage on June 24 caught a man walking through their yard and "acting very strangely – investigators said.

The resident said that the man was jumping around, holding on to a fence, laying on the ground, flopping around and acting as if he was under the influence of some type of illegal narcotic.

The activity was so bizarre that it prompted the resident to record the incident and call 911. But he was gone before they arrived.

Investigators have not yet said whether Holmes is the man on the video.
