ATLANTA - It's spring break and most of the city has run from the beach or the mountains. The weekend forecast calls for bright skies and everyone left in the city will be soaking up the sun. Check out some of the events being held around the city.
Come out to Dad's Garage for live music, games and BACON! The 12th Annual BaconFest will be held on Saturday, March 31 from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Inman Park theatre. BaconFest! is a celebration chock-ful-of bacon, PBR and Ale Yeah! beer; the event, also, features a silent auction, a wheelchair obstacle course and performances by Darling Norman. Tickets to BaconFest start out at $25 and are on sale to all Atlantans who are 21 and older. BaconFest will be held outside in the parking lots of Dad's Garage Theatre in Inman Park at 280 Elizabeth Street, Suite C- 101. Attendees are encouraged to take MARTA.
Make sure you are in attendance at one of the hottest events of the springtime and the biggest crawfish fest in Atlanta. Get your tickets to Park Tavern's Oyster Crawfish Festival which will be held at the staple restaurant overlooking Piedmont Park on Saturday afternoon. The festival will feature performances by Cowboy Mouth, The Soulphonics and others. For the eighth year, Park Tavern will be serving up fresh crawfish, oysters and all you can eat shrimp to the masses. Get out your beer koozie and your Malibu sunglasses and get ready to have a great time. Park Tavern is located at 500 10th Street in Midtown.
Turner Field is gearing up for the 2012 season with their Open House event on Saturday. Guests are invited to check out the Braves take on the Detroit Tigers on the BravesVision board while participating in batting practice. Visitors can check out the Braves museum and can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the facilities. Prior to the activities the organization will host an alumni breakfast for $15; breakfast will be catered by the Waffle House. Turner Field is located at 755 Hank Aaron Drive in Atlanta.
Old Fourth Ward residents will wake up to some unusual foot traffic on Saturday morning. The Dental Dash for Disabilities 5K Run/Walk will start at 8:00 a.m. at the Historic Fourth Ward Park. According to their website, "The Dentistry for the Developmentally Disabled Foundation treats children and adults with developmental disabilities such as autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, etc. The event will be a family event, with a live band, food and fun." The race is sponsored by Macys.
The Mother Clucker Fried Chicken Festival will feature some of Atlanta's leading chefs, their chicken recipes and tons of adult beverages. The festival will be held at Rosebud and The Family Dog, which are restaurants located in the Virginia Highlands neighborhoods. The chicken frying will commence around 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tickets cost $35 and include free chicken tastings, two Jim Beam drinks and Sweetwater beers. Tickets can be purchased online or at Rosebud.
