Chattahoochee Tech to host career fair

ACWORTH, Ga. -- The North Metro campus of Chattahoochee Technical College is excited to welcome more than 60 companies and organizations to its Fall College and Career Fair later this semester.

The fair will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Building D.

Participating companies include The Home Depot, Kaiser Permanente and Shaw Industries, according to Chattahoochee Tech Career Services coordinator Lucylle Shelton.

"Through this event, employers are given the ability to conveniently interact directly with students and alumni ready to learn about career opportunities," Shelton said in a statement. "The event allows employers to more effectively identify candidates with the right mix of qualifications for a multitude of job openings, whether those openings are available now or in the near future."

Members of the community, as well as Chattahoochee Tech students and alumni, are invited to attend the fair.

UWG gearing up for annual Economic Forecast Breakfast

CARROLLTON, Ga. -- It's almost time for the University of West Georgia's annual Economic Forecast Breakfast.

This year's event will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30 in UWG's Campus Center Ballroom. It is sponsored by the Richards College of Business and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce.

UWG associate professor of economics Dr. William "Joey" Smith plans to give the economic forecast for west Georgia, while BB&T Capital Markets COO John B. Jung Jr. will cover the economy of the United States.

All breakfast attendees will go home with a copy of the 2012 West Georgia Regional Outlook, which provides economic breakdowns for Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson and Paulding counties.

The cost is $30 per person or $200 for a table of eight. Register no later than Monday, Oct. 22.

DALLAS, Ga. -- A ceremony for Paulding County's fall graduates will be held Tuesday, Sept. 18.

All Paulding County School District students who have met local and state graduation requirements are invited to participate in the ceremony. Their friends and family members are also invited to watch them receive their diplomas.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. It will be held in the Paulding County High School auditorium, 1297 Villa Rica Highway in Dallas.

Sam's Club offering free diabetes screenings

Sam's Club offering free diabetes screenings

ATLANTA -- Several Sam's Club Pharmacy locations throughout metro Atlanta will offer free diabetes and vision screenings this weekend.

The screenings will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and are valued at more than $150. They include glucose, A1C, vision, blood pressure and BMI tests.

"Knowing the links between risk factors, choices and solutions prepares our members to better manage or even prevent diabetes," Sam's Club Health and Wellness senior VP Jill Turner-Mitchael said in a statement.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say about 1.9 million new cases of diabetes are diagnosed every year. If this trend continues, one out of every three U.S. adults will have diabetes by 2050.

Diabetes is also the leading cause of new cases of blindness in U.S. adults, according to the CDC.

Braves stars to host baseball camp

DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Two Atlanta Braves superstars will host an MVP Baseball Camp at South Paulding High School next month.

The one-day camp will be held on Saturday, July 14. The cost is $95, which includes lunch, a scrimmage game and autographs with the two camp heads, Brian Jordan and Otis Nixon.

'B at the Movies' this summer

ATLANTA -- Looking for some free family fun this summer?

ALDI and radio station B98.5 will present the "B at the Movies" outdoor movie series at several locations throughout metro Atlanta all summer long.

Everyone is invited to bring their blankets and chairs to the participating parks and watch the family-friendly movies on giant inflatable screens. Movies begin at dusk, but come out early for activities and giveaways.
