Savage Race returns in October

DALLAS, Ga. -- One of the country's toughest and most popular obstacle races will hold an encore later this year.

The Savage Race returns to Paulding County on Saturday, Oct. 5.

It features more than five miles of obstacles, including a water slide, a dash through flames and a crawl through mud beneath a field of barbed wire.

At the end of the race, participants are treated to beer, barbeque and live music. All finishers receive a T-shirt, medal and race decal.

Registration for the Savage Race is $69 through Aug. 8 and only goes up from there. An additional $15 surcharge will be added for insurance. It costs $10 to be a spectator.

The Savage Race will be held at Moonlight Stables Equestrian Center, which is located at 2462 Harmony Grove Church Road in Dallas.

IndepenDance canceled until further notice

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. -- The Paulding County Board of Commissioners has canceled this weekend's IndepenDance at the Polebarn.

The event was supposed to take place Saturday, July 6 at Taylor Park Farm in Powder Springs.

With rain in the forecast, the commissioners have decided to postpone the event, as it includes a fireworks show. A new date has not yet been set.

Dallas Theater holding auditions for 'Driving Miss Daisy'

DALLAS, Ga. -- The Dallas Theater will hold open auditions in August for its upcoming production of Driving Miss Daisy.

Auditions will be held Saturday, Aug. 3 beginning at 10 a.m.

Anyone who is interested should prepare a one-minute monologue and bring a résumé and headshot. Be ready to stay for at least a few hours to possibly read with other actors.

Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of an elderly white Jewish woman and her black chauffeur living in Atlanta in the 1950's and 60's. It won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A 1989 film adaptation starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

VILLA RICA, Ga. -- Douglas & Paulding County Fellowship of Christian Athletes will hold a golf tournament this week.

The event will be Thursday, June 13 at 9 a.m. Registration opens at 7:45 a.m.

BB Webb to speak at Ga. Power Luncheon

DALLAS, Ga. -- Local author and entrepreneur BB Webb will be the keynote speaker at the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce's Georgia Power Luncheon next month.

Webb will give her talk, titled "Build Your Business, Find Your Twirl!" on Thursday, June 6 at 12 p.m.

Her many accomplishments include several books and a successful cable access program, "Living Life with Style." She was named to the 10 Top Female Leaders in North Atlanta in 2012 and has also been Barrow County's Business Woman of the Year.

The Georgia Power Luncheon will be held at the Paulding County Senior Community Center, which is located at 54 Industrial Way in Dallas. Advance registration is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members. The cost jumps to $25 and $30, respectively, at the door.

Chamber luncheon to focus on healthcare law

DALLAS, Ga. -- Attorney David Cole will speak at the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce Georgia Power Luncheon later this week.

Cole is a partner with law firm Freeman, Mathis & Gary, LLP, where he practices labor and employment law. His talk is entitled "The New Federal Healthcare Law: What Every Employer Needs to Know."

The luncheon will be held Thursday, Apr. 4. It will begin with networking at 11 a.m., followed by lunch and Cole's discussion at 12 p.m.

5K to benefit Paulding Education Foundation

HIRAM, Ga. -- The Paulding Education Foundation will hold a 5K Pep Rally fundraiser next month.

The race will be held Saturday, Apr. 20 at the Hiram Trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail.

The fun will begin at 8 a.m. and will be followed by a family-friendly festival with bounce houses, Wii Fit competitions and more.
