P.B. Ritch MS to host World Wide Day of Play

DALLAS, Ga. -- The Paulding County School District created its Activate for Kids initiative to encourage students to adopt healthier lifestyles.

The organization will host World Wide Day of Play 2013 at P.B. Ritch Middle School this Saturday, Sept. 21.

Activities include a boot camp session, kickball, tennis and basketball clinics, and an opportunity for children to join the NFL's Play 60 movement.

"We encourage students, their families and our community to participate in our Worldwide Day of Play events that encourage children to adopt healthy behaviors which, we hope, will develop into lifelong healthy habits," Activate for Kids school wellness coordinator Kimberly Blackmon said in a statement.

Sheriff's office remembers 9/11

DALLAS, Ga. -- The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is gearing up for its 12th annual memorial for the heroes who died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

"We will never forget this horrible day," Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge said. "We will always remember the families of the heroes that died that day. We will never forget about the ones that lived through the horrifying experience and are left with terrifying memories."

This year's event will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8:40 a.m. at Mt. Tabor Park. Special guests include representatives from the New York Police and Fire departments.

PetSmart to host National Adoption Weekend

(WXIA) -- PetSmart Charities is planning a major adoption event at stores nationwide.

National Adoption Weekend will be Sept. 13-15. Thousands of dogs and cats will be available for PetSmart customers to take home.

Adoption representatives will also be on hand to answer questions about caring for a new pet.

PetSmart Charities will give $35 to grants to participating local adoption partners for every pet that finds a new home during National Adoption Weekend.

"We are proud to partner with PetSmart Charities to find lifelong loving homes for thousands of pets this National Adoption Weekend," PetSmart CEO David Lenhardt said.

PROBE College Fair coming to North Paulding HS

PROBE College Fair coming to North Paulding HS

DALLAS, Ga. -- The national PROBE College Fair will stop by North Paulding High School next week.

About 70 colleges and technical schools will be represented at the fair, which will be Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Students will get the opportunity to discuss subjects like financial aid, housing, admission requirements and scholarships with college representatives.

Registration is not required, but students who wish to pre-register can do so at gotocollegefairs.com.

North Paulding High is located at 300 North Paulding High in Dallas.
