HIRAM, Ga. -- Kick off your weekend with a 5K benefiting the Family Alliance of Paulding.

The 8th annual March Against Meth will be held Friday, May 9 at the Hiram Trailhead of the Silver Comet Trail. Race day registration opens at 5 p.m., the 5K will start at 6 p.m. and a 1-mile fun run will be off and running at 6:15 p.m.

It costs $20 to sign up in advance and $25 at the event. Learn more and register at familyallianceofpaulding.org.

Eat at Chili's to help Tenn. tornado victims

(WXIA) -- Several Southern states were slammed by severe weather earlier this week, including Lincoln County, Tenn., which experienced a devastating tornado.

Those who want to contribute to the community's rebuilding fund can now do so, simply by eating at Chili's.

On Sunday, May 4, more than 60 Chili's restaurants in Georgia and Tennessee will contribute 10 percent of the day's earnings to the Lincoln County Disaster Relief Fund.

Chili's diners can also make monetary donations by adding extra money to their check totals.

Race this weekend: Dirty Spokes Trail Run

DALLAS, Ga. -- Dirty Spokes Productions will bring a trail race to Paulding County this weekend.

The Mount Tabor Park 8.0/4.0 Mile Trail Run will be held Saturday, Apr. 12 at the eponymous park. Runners can choose to tackle one of the two distances on an off-road trail.

Registration is $40 for the 8.0-mile race and $35 to run 4.0 miles. On race day, the price jumps to $45 and $40, respectively.

Both races start at 8 a.m. All runners will receive Dri-FIT T-shirts, while medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each race, as well as the top three finishers in each age group.

Ga. Connections Academy accepting students for 2014-15 school year

(WXIA) -- A few seats are still available at Georgia Connections Academy for the 2014-15 school year.

Georgia Connections Academy is a virtual K-12 public school that allows students to learn at their own pace. It is fully accredited and open to all school-age Georgia children.

"We are enrolling 1,000 additional students across all grade levels for the coming academic year," lead principal Heather Robinson said in a release. "We have a waiting list as we open enrollment, so we encourage parents to get their applications in now."

State of the County to be delivered this week

DALLAS, Ga. -- Paulding County Commission Chairman David Austin will give the State of the County address at this month's Georgia Power Luncheon, hosted by the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be held Thursday, Feb. 6 and will begin at 11 a.m. with networking. Lunch and Austin's speech will begin at noon.

The State of the County address will highlight Paulding County's achievements and future plans, and will also update citizens and business owners on the fiscal and operational challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Admission to the Georgia Power Luncheon is $20 for chamber members and $25 for non-members if paid in advance. It goes up to $25 for members and $30 for non-members at the door.

The luncheon will be held at the Paulding County Senior Community Center, which is located at 54 Industrial Way in Dallas.

IHOP offering free pancakes for charitable donations

(WXIA) -- IHOP will once again participate in the National Pancake Day promotion on Tuesday, Mar. 4.

Customers who visit any IHOP location on National Pancake Day will be treated to a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes. In exchange, the restaurant chain encourages diners to leave a donation for a number of charities, namely the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.

Beginning this Saturday, Feb. 1, IHOP will collect donations for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Customers can buy paper balloons that cost either $1 or $5. The balloons will hang in IHOP restaurants through National Pancake Day.

Anyone who purchases a $5 balloon will receive a $5 IHOP coupon to use on a future visit.
