HIRAM, Ga. -- A Hiram chiropractor has been arrested and charged with eight counts of identity fraud and one count of theft by deception.

Dr. Christopher Lockerman, 42, was taken to jail on Wednesday, May 4. He was released on $26,550 bond.

In February, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office began uncovering thousands of dollars received from J.P. Morgan Chase Bank through lines of credit established in the names of patients of Lockerman's business, Lockerman Family Chiropractic.

Detectives determined that Lockerman used his patients' personal information to establish lines of credit and receive money.

"It appears that some of the accounts were opened with the permission of the patient in order to pay for chiropractic services, while other accounts were opened in patients' names without their knowledge or permission," said Major Tom Murphy with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Many of the patients did not realize that their identities had been stolen until they received calls from collection agencies to pay debts from fraudulent accounts.

Lockerman allegedly took over $264,000 from his victims.

Anyone with additional information in this case is asked to call the Paulding County Sheriff's Office at 770-443-3015. Detectives are also urging other possible identity theft victims to come forward.
