Man arrested for burglarizing vacant home

HIRAM, Ga. -- Deputies with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office arrested a man suspected of burglarizing a vacant house.

The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Rosedale Drive in Hiram.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect was in the front yard. He quickly ran back into the house when he saw the police.

A deputy found the suspect inside the house; the suspect then initiated "a violent confrontation," according to Sgt. Brandon Gurley with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

Another officer heard the fight and ran inside to assist the deputy. Together, they brought the suspect under control, Gurley said.

Both the officer and the suspect were treated for minor injuries. The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the Paulding County Detention Center.
