Library to hold teen craft night

HIRAM, Ga. -- Paulding County teenagers are invited to attend a free craft night in Hiram later this month.

The arts and crafts session will be held Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Maude P. Ragsdale Public Library, which is located at 1815 Hiram-Douglasville Highway.

BREMEN, Ga. (July 15, 2013) – The stars keep shining on the Mill Town Music Hall stage.  John Michael Montgomery is the latest country music superstar to announce an upcoming performance at the venue. Rising star Jaida Dreyer will serve as the opening act for the concert on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale this Tuesday, July 16, beginning at 10 a.m. EST, and can be purchased through the Mill Town Music Hall website and box office of by calling Ticket Alternative. Mill Town Music Hall focuses on wholesome, family-friendly music and events and is located conveniently off I-20 in Bremen (1031 Alabama Avenue).

Dallas Theater holding auditions for 'Driving Miss Daisy'

DALLAS, Ga. -- The Dallas Theater will hold open auditions in August for its upcoming production of Driving Miss Daisy.

Auditions will be held Saturday, Aug. 3 beginning at 10 a.m.

Anyone who is interested should prepare a one-minute monologue and bring a résumé and headshot. Be ready to stay for at least a few hours to possibly read with other actors.

Driving Miss Daisy tells the story of an elderly white Jewish woman and her black chauffeur living in Atlanta in the 1950's and 60's. It won the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A 1989 film adaptation starring Jessica Tandy and Morgan Freeman won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Dallas Theater presents 'Annie'

DALLAS, Ga. -- One of Broadway's most popular musicals will open at the Dallas Theater on Apr. 19.

Annie tells the story of a lovable redhead orphan who manages to win the heart of a grumpy billionaire while outsmarting the wicked orphanage owner Miss Hannigan.

The show will be at the Dallas Theater Apr. 19-21 and May 3-5. Shows are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets to Annie are $12 regular admission and $9 for children, seniors, students, military and groups of 10 or more.

Hiram HS student wins T-shirt design contest

PAULDING COUNTY, Ga. -- A Hiram High School student has won this year's Paulding Education Foundation T-shirt design contest.

Allyson B. was recently named the winner for her lightbulb drawing. She now has the opportunity to work with a graphic artist to turn her concept into a design that will grace the T-shirts for the Foundation's 5K.

The school district said Allyson's submission was picked because it incorporates all the elements promoted by the event: school spirit, excitement and education, not to mention running.

Chattahoochee Tech begins ESL program

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Chattahoochee Technical College will roll out a new program for non-native English-speaking students next month.

The Intensive English Program will feature classes in American culture and the English language, with a focus on grammar, writing, reading, speaking and listening. Students will learn in several environments, including a classroom, computer lab, library and from peer tutors.

"In the broad scope, the program will offer international students who currently attend or are interested in attending undergraduate programs in the United States the opportunity to improve their English language skills," Chattahoochee Tech ESL resource instructor Carol Glickman said in a statement.

Tuition for the Intensive English Program is $1,410 for full-time students, which includes 160 hours of instruction. There are also part-time options that cost $300 per class.

Local author to hold signing at Acworth Bookstore

ACWORTH, Ga. -- Paulding County-based author Bryan M. Powell will hold a signing for his latest book in Acworth this weekend.

The novel, Stranger in the White House, is the newest addition to Powell's Stranger Series.

He will sign copies of the book Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Acworth Bookstore.
