Crimes Against Children Unit Recognized by GBI

DALLAS, GA -- The Paulding County Sheriff's Office Crimes Against Children (CAC) unit has been recognized for the most "Outstanding Investigative Activity in the Specialized Area of Internet Crimes Against Children, Internet Safety and Community Outreach" for the second year in a row.

The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is one of 61 agencies in Georgia's Internet Crime Task Force.

The Paulding County Sheriff's Office CAC unit hosted a Parent Summit in 2009 and 2010 focusing on educating parents on how to safeguard against Internet predators who use computers and phones to communicate with and exploit children.

The unit also participated in many other community functions and school presentations throughout the year, including the 2nd annual Public Safety Appreciation Day that was hosted by Paulding Public Safety Appreciation, Inc. at the Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport. There are plans to attend the event again next year, as well as a 2011 Family Summit that will focus on family safety.

Paulding County Sheriff Gary Gulledge is a firm supporter of child safety both on and off the Internet.

"Children oftentimes do not realize that they are being victimized until it's too late," he said. "It is our job as parents to protect them from those dangers, and it is our job as law enforcement to educate the parents and children of the dangers that exist and how best to safeguard against them."
